Music is a part of everyday life. It is a form of nonverbal communication that allows us to convey our ideas, feelings and emotions.
Teaching of music in IIS is arranged into five strands: viz
- Performing: i.e. Singing, and playing musical instruments
- Creating and Composing
- Notation
- Listening and appreciation
- Music in society.
Though these strands students are exposed to and work on a wide range of musical stimuli. They develop an awareness and appreciation of music from a range of times, places and cultures. They are also taught to read sheet music and play several instruments such as the piano, the recorder, percussion instruments and the guitar.
